Boston, Massachusetts

October 10

Did not sleep well last night (kept waking up after strange dreams) and even spent an hour sleeping on the sofa.  Finally gave up and got up at 7:11.  Tried to post yesterday's blog but was again unsuccessful.  Decided to take my iPad with me in case we ate somewhere with free wi-fi.

Met with everyone at 8:20 to get off the ship.  We had purchased tickets for the Old Town Trolley Tour which had a pick up point near the port.  When we got off the ship the trolley man told us we had to walk 250 yards to the stop.  Luckily there were only a few people ahead of us in line because many more showed up before the trolley arrived right after nine.

The trolley took us to stop number one where we had to cross a couple of streets to join the regular tour.  Our original plan was to complete one loop of the route, have lunch and then go back to places that interested us.  Well, we were able to complete the first two.

We did our loop and got off to have lunch.  We were walking through Quincy Market which had lots of really good looking food stalls but we wanted to sit down and eat inside.  We found a place called "Dick's Last Resort" and not only was the food good but we had a fun time.  As we sat down the waiter didn't really greet us but was flippant in a funny way.  When he brought the drinks he showered us with straws.  They then came around with bibs for everyone and the waiter made us each a hat with a comical saying alluding to our age.  (OK, you had to be there - I can't write it so it comes out as funny as it was.)  Most of us had the crab balls but Tommy had alligator and Carolyn and Gary shared a burger with the crab balls.  I was able to get on the internet and post yesterday's blog entry.  We looked like the younger crowd with all of us on our devices!

Due to the hoards of people in Boston, we gave up on getting back on the hop-on, hop-off trolley because at each stop there had been far more people than the trolley could hold.  Barbara wanted to see the Boston Tea Party Museum but I knew I wasn't able to do the walk, so we split up.  I walked around the Quincy Market area and the rest left to throw tea in the harbor.

I visited Faneuil Hall which has been a meeting and market place since 1743.  Went upstairs to see the Meeting Hall then walked around some and looked at the stalls before meeting up at the trolley stop to come back to the ship.

The trolley took us directly back to the ship (not the 250 yards away meeting point from the morning) and we went through security before getting back on the ship.

We decided to eat early so we could watch the first show.  Three of us had Steak Diane, Barbara had chicken and Carolyn had pasta again.  We all agreed on the Berry Cobbler with ice cream for dessert.

After dinner, I sat in one of the lounges and found the internet worked much better than in my cabin.  I was able to get my pictures uploaded from yesterday and today.

The show was called "In The Air" with the singers and dancers doing aerial acrobatics.  Due to my fear of heights, it wasn't my favorite show.  They were amazing athletes but I found the show a little strange.

Back to my cabin to finish today's blog.  You might note I did not attend any trivia today (RCI does not seem to have a late trivia - or it might just be on nights before a port) since we were off the ship all day.  I am going through withdrawal.
